Doña Teresa Lino, an indigenous woman and artisan dedicates her art to the defense of Human Rights. She

belongs to the Puebla Network of Rural and Indigenous Women. This group of women seek equality, human and economic growth through various means, such as the independent production of traditional handmade goods.

In 1979 at the age of 19, Doña Teresa along with her sister united to form the association called TAMACHIJ CHIHUATL. After 34 years of work, the group consists of 200 Náhuatl indigenous women from different commu- nities from the Municipality of Hueyapan. They strive to improve their human condition as well as the trade and quality of their textiles.

Doña Tere trains other women to promote human rights and rights of production. Tere also educates others about her craft. Her handmade textiles consist of beautiful woven wool created by a female artisan on a foot pedal loom. The artisans then dye the weavings with colors extracted from native roots and plants. Often the hand-embroidered pieces include Náhuatl symbols telling ancestral stories through the patterns.
